چکیده

A signi cant genetic component is involved in the development of the craniofacial form. Recently, the growth hormone receptor gene (GHR) variants rs6180 and rs6184 were associated with variations in mandibular form. To con rm these ndings we evaluated the relationship between these GHR variants and mandibular form in a cohort of Egyptian individuals with a normal skull form. The patients consisted of 191 unrelated Egyptian adults (92 males, 99 females ; 18-55 years). Allele frequencies of the rs6180 and rs6184 variants were determined from genomic DNA extracted from saliva using the Taqman genotyping assay. Lateral and posteroanterior cephalometric tracings were used to obtain 19 mandibular measurements. The association between the GHR variants and the mandibular measurements was examined using regression analysis. The frequency of the minor rs6184 variant was very low at 1.5% : therefore, association studies were not performed for this variant. The rs6180 variant was not associated with any of the measurements representing mandibular form in our study cohort. The frequency of the rs6184 variant was very low in our cohort of Egyptian subjects. We also found no association between the rs6180 variant and the measurements representing the mandibular form. By excluding the involvement of these GHR variants in in uencing mandibular form, our results may help to identify the actual variant (s) affecting the mandibular form in the Egyptian population.

Association of TG-repeats in the 5’-flanking region of bovine growth hormone receptor (GHR) gene with milk production traits and somatic cell count in Holstein cattle

The growth hormone receptor (GHR) is a member of cytokine/hematopoietin family that mediates the biological actions of growth hormone (GH) on target tissues. Therefore, the purpose of this study was to examine the association of TG-repeat polymorphisms in the 5’-flanking region of bovine GHR gene with milk production traits and somatic cell score (SCS) in Holstein cattle of Iran. The part of 5’...

The relationship between growth hormone polymorphism and growth hormone receptor genes with milk yield and reproductive performance in Holstein dairy cows

The aim of this study was to investigate the potential association between growth hormone GH/AluI and growth hormone receptor GHR/AluI polymorphisms with milk yield and reproductive performances in Holstein dairy cows in Iran. Blood samples of 150 Holstein cows were collected and their genomic DNA was extracted using Gene-Fanavaran DNA extracting kit. Fragments of the 428 bp of exon 5 growth ho...

P-238: Lack of Association of Estrogen Receptor Polymorphisms with Male Infertility

Background: Estrogen is recognized as one of the significant regulator of spermatogenesis. Estrogens are synthesized in the male reproductive system (sertoli and leydig cells). Estrogen function is mediated by estrogen receptors (ER-α or ER-β). Some studies have suggested an association between single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) rs2234693 (ESR1 pvuII C>T), rs1801132 (ESR1 325 C->G) of ERα g...

Interleukin-23 Receptor Gene Variants in Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia and Their Relation to Prognostic Factors

Background: Interleukin (IL)-23 has an important role in tumor immune regulation. Objective: To investigate the possible association of interleukin-23 receptor (IL23R) gene variants rs1884444, rs10889677 and rs11209026 with development of acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL). Methods: The IL23R variants were studied in 164 ALL patients and compared to 175 healthy controls by polymerase chain reac...

Allelic Polymorphism of GH, GHR and IGF-1 Genes and Their Association with Growth and Carcass Traits in Mazandaran Native Fowl

This investigation aimed to study polymorphism of growth hormone (GH), growth hormone receptor (GHR), and insulin like growth factor 1 (IGF-1) genes and their associations with growth and carcass traits in Mazandaran native chicken. 200 male chicks were reared and slaughtered at 12 weeks of age. Traits including live weight at 4, 8 and 12 weeks of age, body weight and weights of heart, liver, g...
